Royal Wedding

Well I did it, I woke up at 3:30am to watch the Royal Wedding live and I'm happy I did! I saw all the important bits without having to deal with next day commentary or fun fact pop ups. I saw it as it happened. You can only wonder what must have been going through their minds! Oh and can I just say, holy dress batman, beautiful!

You can see many more fantastic photos on The Telegraph.

It's all about the Swirl....

Even though ice cream hates me (I'm lactose intolerant) chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream is my favourite summer treat hands down! You can't find it too many places around here which may also be why I like it so much...you really have to hunt it down! There's just something about this delicious treat that makes me so happy! Yum! What's your favourite summer goody?

You know what else I like in Swirl form? Cupcakes! It's my husbands birthday today so I sent him off to work (preschool style) with some of these bad boys....
Want to know how I did it? Okay!

It's very simply really. Make a butter cream icing recipe (I've posted mine below) in white. Separate it in half and mix your desired colours into the icing. Next add spoonfuls of icing to the bag alternating between each colour. Squish the icing together a bit (not too much) with your fingers as well as pushing it towards the decorating tip. Your first cupcake will probably be a more solid colour but after that the icing should come out in a mix of the two colours you made. It really couldn't be easier I promise and just think of the colour possibilities. Pink and Yellow, Blue and Green, Pink and Chocolate, Red and Green...it's never ending!

Butter Cream Icing Recipe
1 cup margarine (I use tub margarine, Imperial to be exact)
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups confectioners sugar
1 tablespoon milk (1 capful is how I measure it) : )

Using an electic mixer beat margarine and vanilla together in a bowl.
Add one cup of sugar at a time beating the mixture between each cup.
Add 1 tablespoon milk to bowl and beat with mixer (the milk cuts down on the sweetness I find).

You want a smooth, not too runny and not too stiff, consistency. Add sugar or milk to your mixture to achieve desired consistency.

Note:
* Because of the margarine I use the icing has an off white color. It's not a true white. If you want a true white you can buy white margaine or use shortening. I prefer margarine as I can't stand the taste or texture of shortening. To each their own though. : )
* If adding food colouring, especially the water based kind, you can add a tablespoon of meringue powder. This will help the colour stay solid looking in the icing. I prefer using gel food colouring. A little goes a long way though!
* Add cocoa powder to icing to make chocolate. You may need to add more milk in order to keep the consistency the way you want it.

Whimsical Wedding.....

Above is Krystin (she's the one on the left just to be clear, teehee). Her shop on Etsy is MySweetBaboo and she and I are team mates on the Etsy Alberta Street Team. I've recently gotten to know Krystin a bit and she is just wonderful! I love her style, her shop is amazing and her blog, Sappy Apple, has become a daily read for me!

As we were chatting I found out that her wedding was featured on the wonderful wedding site Green Wedding Shoes. I checked out the feature and was blown away by this whimsical wedding! I love all the amazing flowers, the Goose Greese cake topper, the adorable wooden ring box with the tiny house on top and above all the amazing photography done by Lucida Photography which captured the day so perfectly! Thank you Krystin for letting me share this!

Aren't these the most adorable photos ever?

Treasury Love....

Happy Monday! My shop was featured in this wonderful treasury by aspeerstudio over the weekend. The overall aesthetic of the treasury I love and each find just makes me smile. I love the photo used for karoart's Bunny Attack listing. The listing is actually for ceramic bunnies but the cute little sign caught my eye instantly. It's a brilliant lead photo! I can barely stand the cuteness off the Vintage Cow Egg Cup from winkinpossum and Buttercup the Giant Sleeping Bunny from sleepyking! The Origami Lotus Flower from fishandlotus is jaw dropping and the Cottage Kitchen Potholders from xxxRedStitcHxxx are adorable! Oh and have I mentioned the Bunny Surprise Tea Cup from alinahayes yet or the Vintage Melmac Bowls from ionesattic or the Paper Flowers from LBCpaper.....all so cute!

Yup I definitely love this treasury! How 'bout you?

Pssst, this is a live clickable version of the actual treasury. Just click on each picture to be taken to each individual shop.

The Mouse....

I'm so excited! We're off to see the Mouse! The most wonderful mouse of all! I love Disneyland and have been many times but this time we're off to see Disney World. I've never been so I'm very excited to go check the Magical Kingdom out. We've also never been with our own kids so the experience should be interesting. I can't wait! We go in May and I'll be sure to post many pics upon our return.

Abby Cakes....

I thought I'd end the week with something fun! Since Aberdeen turned 1 we had a family party and then the next day had some family friends over to celebrate. I mean she's one it's not like we're going to invite just a bunch of babies over without their parents (wouldn't that have been a hoot!). So because of this I wanted to come up with a kind of treat bag that would be good for the whole family and not just the babies/kids. So I made Abby Cakes!

Items needed: One clear treat bag, one cake mix, roughly 25 cupcake liners, some coloured sugar sprinkles, a stapler and a cute paper topper complete with cooking instructions and icing recipe.

The top portion included the cooking instructions for the cake mix (right from the box cause that's how I roll!) and the bottom listed the butter cream recipe that I use all the time because it's just so darn good!

They turned out pretty cute I think!
Happy weekend everyone!

I'm ready for Spring, how about you? This winter has been harsher and longer than normal and I'm done with it! Come on sun, grass, splash parks, ice cream, flip flops, and flowers (even if you do make me sneeze). This adorable paper flower won't though! You can find it in the wonderful shop LBCpaper on Etsy.
