The Mix Tape

Oh the Mix Tape.....how that brings back memories. All you really need (besides good taste in music) for a good mix tape is a double tape deck stereo or the radio. So many of my mix tapes where made by me sitting by my stereo listening to the radio waiting for the latest song to come on with my finger on the record button. Most of the songs started with the announcer introduction. Classy I know but it was all about getting the song not necessarily the quality. haha!

This lovely Mix Tape can be found in the shop Vortex Trading Company on Etsy. It's 1.25" by 2", you can write on the label and the best part....it's a magnet! Awesome!

Birdies on the Wall

My little birdies jumped from the page onto the wall this week and I'm so proud of them. I've actually been kicking around the idea of making wall art recently so this week when Lori contacted me I did a little happy dance. Lori is designing her daughters "big girl" room and she's basing a lot of the design off of this cute fabric she found of bird cages. She emailed me to see if I could make my little birdies in different colours to match the fabric. Of course I said yes! She also wanted to print them off at a photo lab in 5" x 7" so after a few tries I figured out how to make the images into printable jpegs and I sent them off to her. Lori was kind enough to send me some pictures of the final product. I love the striped paper! Thanks Lori!

I heart Coldplay!

Last night I went to the Coldplay concert. It was AMAZING! Absolutely fantastic!
We're talking giant yellow ballons, lazers, massive amounts of butterfly shapped confetti, a pitch dark "wave" using everyones cell phones, a dancing janitor to get the crowd going before hand, humor (my favourite part) and of course awesome music! One of the highlights was when Coldplay walked through the crowd to the back of the stadium where a little platform was set up amounst the fans directly across from the main stage. There they sang Green Eyes and I'm a Believer which everyone sang along too! Awesome! If I can get my hands on a copy of this concert I'll be a happy girl! I love me a good concert DVD!
This is the second time I've seen Coldplay in concert and I hope I get to see them again and again!
I could go on and on but I'll leave it there for now. I took some pics of my husband, brother and I at the concert but I don't know how to get them off my phone. Lol. I'll have to post them a bit later.

Ikea lovers take note!

The first step is to admit you have a problem.
I love Ikea. Not so much a problem but most of the rooms in my house look like they've come out of an Ikea catalog so it makes me wonder if it's time to take a step back. But then I found a very cool company, via the How About Orange blog, that allows you to customize your Ikea furniture. I mean, come on! The company is GRIPPIKS based out of Sydney Australia and they sell a patterned film that grips onto the surfaces of Ikea furniture. Applys easily and removes easily. Very cool!

How Handy

So say you're walking around Istanbul and you get caught in a rain storm. This umbrella sure would be handy. It shows the locations of cafes, restaurants and hot spots that you could take shelter in. How clever is that?!

Photo Friday

This lovely picture can be found in the Etsy shop Erratic Habits. The picture itself isn't for sale it's actually the shoes that you can buy but I just thought this picture was so great I had to share.

Click here for Erratic Habits Shop where you can find a fantastic selection of "eclectic and inspiring pre-loved pieces of history".

How To - Product Picture Taking

Just a little behind the scenes look at how I take my pictures. I use a white piece of poster paper, natural light and a little point and shoot Cannon Elf camera. I'm fairly critical of my pictures and always think they could be better but considering what I'm using at the moment I think they turn out pretty good.
Here's the basic set up. I took these outside but I usually take my pics on my kitchen counter by the window. I've also taken them in the living room. It all depends on time of day and which side of the house is getting more sun.

Getting closer....I take most of my pictures on the Macro setting. I love it. The macro setting allows me to get some unique angles and the products always turn out nice and crisp looking.

Even closer.....now as you can see the pictures is alright but kind of dull looking. Well Linda at a la mode told me about Picasa and now I use it all the time! Picasa is a free download off the internet. It's amazing how the click of one or two buttons can make your pictures pop! I like the "I'm Feeling Lucky" and "Highlight" buttons the best. So here's the before without Picasa and.....

.........the after with Picasa. These pics turned out a little too blue because I took them a little too late in the day but you get the idea.
It takes a little work but it's worth all the effort!
