Golden Grams
I've been avoiding my blog for awhile now. Partly out of being really busy but mostly because I feel compelled to post about a certain topic that I don't really want to write about. I feel however that this post is something I need to do.....a way to say goodbye perhaps. That topic is my Grandma Marie. She passed away two weeks ago tomorrow. Jason, Aden and I returned home on Oct 14 from our trip to BC and roughly half an hour after getting home my mom called to let me know that my Grandma had passed away that morning. She fell asleep in her chair Monday night and just didn't wake up the next morning. We are so grateful for how she went. It was very peaceful and just what we would have wanted for her but it certainly came as a shock for the rest of us. The night before she passed away it was Thanksgiving and she ate a huge meal and played Bowling on my cousin's Nintendo Wii. Go figure! I love my Grandma very much. It still doesn't feel entirely real that she's gone. Being up here in Calgary it's easy to feel as if she's just down in Lethbridge hanging out in her apartment as usual. We had a memorial service this past Saturday for her at my house. It was great. It was like a big party and not sad at all, just what she would have wanted. She is a wonderful, generous, loving person who I will miss very much. She is Calgary to me, she is Christmas, she is rummy, she is solitar, she is brown stuff (aka cinnamon spread), she is hidden chocolate bars, she is rolls of loonies, she is many memories to me....too many to write all at once and far too many to remember all at once. I am so grateful that she was part of my life for such a long time and will continue to be in my memories. Happy Birthday Grandma! (She would have turned 89 today). I love you!

BC Adventure
Finally some shots from out trip to BC. We went out there for Jason's Grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary. We decided to extend our trip so that we could see other friends and family that also live in BC. We were there from Oct. 7 to Oct. 14. Aden did really well despite all the time spent in the truck. We were pleasantly surprised. He was a real trooper.
A shot of Aden exploring the grounds at our cabin (for lack of a better term).
Aden loves to throw so Jay introduced him to the joy of making water splash. Aden was hooked. He didn't want to stop and threw rocks into the lake for a good 15 minutes.
Double handed yet!
This was our cabin called Quince. It was rustic but with all the conveniences of today.....my kind of camping. It was really nice and the last cabin on the peninsula so you could see the lake right out the back of our cabin and we were right on the beach. The cabin had a great little living room and kitchen and two bedrooms. The location is called Ponderosa Point in Kaledon (just south of Penticton). We'd totally stay there again and recommend it to anyone!
Aden and Daniel having some fun at Costco!

Music and Commercials
3rd and last post - As a general rule I'd say that I'm not a huge fan of commercials. They provide time to run and get a snack, retrieve a sippy cup or go to the bathroom. Other than the convenience I really could care less. However....once and awhile a lovely commercial comes along that you just can't wait to see over and over and more often than not it's because of the music. There was a commercial for a video game last year that introduced me to the song "Mad World". Love it! There's also a commercial on right now for the Discovery Channel which has many of it's show hosts singing the song "I Love the World". Not a great song granted but it's the song that makes the commercial. Many commercials have introduced me to many new songs and artists. I find myself googling "Nano-chromatic Commercial Song" in order to get a name that I can then download from Limewire. When I find the song it's like making a great discovery because now it's on my computer to be listened to over and over. Here are just a couple more that I have recently discovered. They are also on my playlist so take a listen and enjoy!
- Bruises by Chairlift
- When I go by Slow Club
- More Where That Came From by Dolly Parton (not on playlist)
House update
2nd post - I believe that I mentioned already that we had decided to get the exterior of our house painted. Well the deed is done. The painters came last week and in 3 days our house got a makeover. Here are a few pics of the transformation.
Before - We really didn't mind the gray and white but it was time for an update and the gray was starting to crack and peel exposing some lovely bright blue underneath.
Paint Samples - We had a very hard time picking a colour. Many sample strips were taken from the paint store. I got out the good old colour fan and tried to match many houses in the neighbourhood. Finally I choose 6 to try out on the house. We got a quart of each and only dipped the brush in the paint twice. Anyone need some beige?
Mid Makeover - The painting company was great. They did a wonderful job of taping everything off. The only down side is the second day when they sprayed the house all of the windows and doors got covered in plastic. I couldn't see out or even get out at one point. Talk about feeling claustrophobic.
All done - Our house is now a lovely, happy shade of beige. The acual name is Neutral. The house looks updated now with the new color and the fact that we got the stucco and siding painted the same. Our new steps look great too and my favourite part....we now have black doors. Woo hoo!

Hypocritical Blogger
I'm a hypocritical blogger. I follow a few blogs now. I typically check them each morning while eating breakfast and watching Aden run around the house. I get so excited to see what everyone's new "news" will be and find myself often disappointed and sad when I see the same post as the day before, or the day before that, or that, or that..... And yet I have to remind myself that I can hardly expect others to update their blogs everyday when I can barely update my blog once a week. So I apologize to my blogger friends for expecting so much from them (even though they don't realize I do) and to make up for it I will put up 3 posts today, this being the first.
I recently got a digital scrapbooking program and spent the whole week working on an album that will remain nameless for the moment. Here are a few pages of the Turner kidlets. Enjoy!
